Secondary Teacher
Sessions

With challenge, encouragement, and belief, a secondary teacher empowers students to rise to their full potential.

Year One

  • This session will equip you with the knowledge and skills to navigate building resources and common spaces, locate student support services and identify key instructional resources available within the school.

  • This session focuses on exploring your student information system (SIS), including how to create assignments, set up grading scales, and manage student data effectively.

  • This session emphasizes the importance of establishing yourself as the leader in the classroom. You will be challenged to explore a variety of leadership strategies to find approaches that align with your personal style.

  • This session highlights the critical role of building strong trust-based relationships with both students and parents through consistent and open communication.

  • This session focuses on effective classroom management built on clarity, consistency, confidence and well-established routines. Remember that positive reinforcement and skillful redirection play essential roles in maintaining a supportive structured learning environment.

  • This session will help you be prepared to navigate unexpected moments with confidence and composure. You will explore practical strategies to stay calm during disruptions in order to make quick effective decisions.

  • This session will help you recognize that student behavior is often a form of communication reflecting underlying needs, emotions or challenges. You will learn to observe and interpret behaviors with empathy, using this insight to build stronger relationships and respond more effectively.

  • This session will equip you with the knowledge to support students of all abilities by making appropriate accommodations and understanding how to interpret key documents such as IEPs and 504 plans.

  • In this session you will locate your instructional standards and transform them into structured teachable units aligned with student learning goals. You will also organize your instruction by chunking content using a pacing guide.

  • A pacing guide serves as a framework for building engaging standards-based lessons while helping to maintain a clear view of the overall instructional arc. By understanding the big picture you can strategically plan for meaningful extension activities.

  • In this session you'll explore a variety of instructional delivery models and reflect on how using diverse approaches maintains student engagement. If you're relying too much on "sit and get," it may be time to switch things up.

  • This session emphasizes the importance of setting healthy boundaries to support your well-being and prevent burnout. You will explore practical strategies for protecting time, energy, and emotional health while maintaining a commitment to your students.

Year Two

  • Checking for understanding should be part of your daily routine and doesn’t always require formal assessments. In this session, you’ll explore a range of strategies to gauge student learning and use that insight to decide when to move forward and when to reteach.

  • This session explores ways to make learning more authentic by connecting classroom content to the real world. When students see the relevance of what they're learning, engagement and effort naturally increase.

  • In this session you will explore how to design and implement effective collaborative learning which includes structure, clear expectations, and defined roles.

  • In this session you'll be challenged to adopt intentional strategies for building a positive classroom culture rooted in respect, engagement and high expectations. Creating a climate where students thrive doesn't happen by accident—it takes thoughtful planning and consistent effort.

  • Homework doesn’t have to be dreaded—it's all about purpose and creativity. In this session, you’ll explore how to design meaningful, engaging assignments that go beyond worksheets and encourage real thinking without overwhelming students.

  • In this session you will be introduced to Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), a framework designed to meet the academic, behavioral and social-emotional needs of all students.

  • As educators, we have access to a wide array of EdTech tools—but with so many options, it can quickly become overwhelming. At times, this abundance can even hinder authentic learning experiences for our students. In this session, you will explore when less is more.

  • You may have heard the saying, 'Students will rise to the low expectations you set.' In this session, we’ll explore strategies to challenge students just enough to push them out of their comfort zones—without pushing so far that they shut down. It's about finding that sweet spot where growth happens.

  • This session focuses on ways to get involved in your school community in order to build connections, grow professionally and enhance impact.

  • This session will share simple strategies to streamline your planning, cut down on repetitive work and model strong organizational habits for students.

  • This lesson focuses on fun and effective strategies for building literacy skills across all grade levels and content areas. You will explore techniques to support reading, writing and communication development.

  • This self-reflection activity invites you to pause and consider growth in your journey so far. Through guided prompts, you will reflect on your successes, challenges and the impact you are having in the classroom.

Mentors Matter

For the program to be successful, it is vital that districts choose mentors that are knowledgeable and committed to the growth of their mentee(s). Mentors will be the “boots on the ground” who will guide their mentee(s) through these session topics and ensure proper recording of their time spent and outcomes from each session.

Due to the importance of selecting the best mentors, all mentors access to the app and accompanying material is included at no extra charge.
